European Biorefinery 2030 Vision Document

The Vision 2030 document will present the comprehensive assessment of the key factors, challenges and opportunities that will drive the area of biorefinery. The result will be a formulation of a common vision for all the major stakeholders of the five ETPs in the area of biorefinery. The document will build on similar existing documents, including but not limited to the biorefinery-related content of the Vision Documents of the ETPs. If necessary the gaps will be complemented with the findings of Star-COLIBRI.

European Biorefinery Joint Strategic Research Roadmap for 2020

This document will bring together the biorefinery aspects within the existing Strategic Research Agendas (SRAs) of the participating ETPs. It will also take into consideration other relevant research strategies, including national Research Road Maps; policy documents such as the Biomass action plan and the SET-plan. This document will also reflect results from Star-COLIBRI.

More specifically, the Roadmap will:
  • Analyse and identify gaps between industrial needs, ongoing research activities, and research funding as identified by EU and national research funding programmes.
  • Identify research areas of specific importance. The timing of research activities necessary to realise the Vision 2030 should as far as possible be established.

Lead Market Initiative on Biobased products

A Lead Market Initiative Liaison Task Force will be created. Star-COLIBRI will contribute to the Lead Market Initiative (mainly on Biobased Products) through the Lead Market Initiative Liaisons Task Force by providing concrete examples of the practical implications of legislation, standardisation, labelling and certification on large-, medium and small enterprises. This information will contribute to better policy making. The LMI-LTF will also provide information to the StarCluster participants about ongoing policy discussions and the potential effect that the discussed policies could have on their activities.

Due date: April 2011
Task leader: SusChem/EuropaBio
