Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research

Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research

Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research (DLO) is an organisation for strategic and applied-scientific research for the industries and national and international authorities. The market-driven research covers the whole productions chain; from optimising growing techniques via sustainable development and quality improvement to consumer product perception. Our expertise in all separate links of the production and sale chains enables us to realise - together with our clients- creative, and innovative solutions based on scientific insights and technological know-how.

DLO has a great variety of research facilities and equipment that range from lab-scale to semi-industrial (pilot) scale. As a result the institute is able to optimise new technologies and products, and to offer tailor-made solutions to industries. Contract partners can be found, among others, in the food industry, the chemical industry,  the motor-car industry, the industries manufacturing building materials, the paper-making industry, retailers, auctions, transport companies, the European Commission and national authorities. In the Business Unit Bio-based Products (BbP), biorefinery is the major research programme that is being performed at the moment.

DLO is a major European KIS stakeholder. DLO co-ordinates and participates in a variety of European biorefinery-related CSA (BIOPOL, BIOREF-INTEG, SUSTOIL) and Collaborative Projects (Green Biorefinery, BIOSYNERGY, HYVOLUTION). DLO is the co-ordinator of IEA Bioenergy Task 42 on Biorefinery, and is member of the EC Lead Market Initiative on Bio-based Products (KBBE-Net representative). Nationally DLO is the co-ordinator of the Dutch Knowledge Platform on Biorefinery, and DLO was selected by the Dutch government to prepare the National Research, Development and Demonstration Programme on Biorefinery (Dutch Biorefinery Initiative)
