IAR is gathering companies and scientific research dealing with agro industry: 800 researchers, 2 private-sector research platforms dedicated to non-food uses of plants (ARD and CVG), 3 research institutes (CNRS, INRA and INERIS), 4 universities (URCA, UPJV, UTC, UTT) and 4 engineering schools (ESIEC, ISAB, ENSAM, ESCOM). IAR goal is to identify and set-up R&D projects (market driven activities) on biorefinery and to develop a real scientific and technological expertise on the subject. A wide range of national and international R&D projects have already been launched (55 running projects), covering four key target markets: bioenergy, biomaterials, fine biochemicals and food ingredients. Demonstration activities are also an important part of the activity (second generation biofuels, chemicals intermediates, green chemistry etc.)
