Technical Research Centre of Finland

 Technical Research Centre of Finland is an impartial, internationally respected research organisation administered by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy. In 2007, VTT’s turnover was 232 million € and it had a staff of 2740. VTT’s major clients and co-operation beneficiaries include companies, universities and other research institutes around the world. VTT’s research covers a broad range of technologies: information & communication, energy, industrial processes and systems, materials and manufacturing, bio- and chemical technology, as well as building and transport. This interdisciplinary expertise available at VTT is a strong additional asset for innovative research. VTT also has proven experience in forming tailored partnerships with Finnish and foreign research organisations and companies. In the past 20 years, VTT has participated in more than 1000 European R&D Framework Programme projects, within various thematic programmes.

VTT has broad competences in mechanical, chemical and biotechnological methods, including own proprietary technologies, to modify/convert/valorise components derived from biomass. VTT’s biorefinery R&D is focused on lignocellulosic feesstocks and recycled/waste materials. VTT is a leader in bioenergy R&D within the EU. VTT focuses in research, development and demonstration services for energy and forest clusters aiming to develop efficient and environmentally sound energy and process technologies.
