Star-COLIBRI project: biorefinery clustering
Star-COLIBRI results
Joint European Biorefinery Vision for 2030
The Joint European Biorefinery Vision for 2030 was published at the High-level Policy-maker Conference on Biorefineries on 5 October 2011 in Brussels.
The Joint European Biorefinery Vision for 2030 presents the comprehensive assessment of the key factors, challenges and opportunities that will drive the area of biorefinery. The result is a formulation of a common vision for all the major stakeholders of the five ETPs in the area of biorefinery. The document builds on similar existing documents, including but not limited to the biorefinery-related content of the Vision Documents of the ETPs. Potential gaps are complemented with the findings of Star-COLIBRI.
European Biorefinery Joint Strategic Research Roadmap for 2020
The European Biorefinery Joint Strategic Research Roadmap for 2020 was published at the High-level Policy-maker Conference on Biorefineries in Brussels on 5 October 2011.
This publication analyses and identifies gaps between industrial needs, ongoing research activities, and research funding as identified by EU and national research funding programmes. It also identifies research areas of specific importance.
This document brings together the biorefinery aspects within the existing Strategic Research Agendas of the participating European Technology Platforms. It also takes into consideration other relevant research strategies, including national Research Road Maps; policy documents such as the Biomass action plan and the SET-plan.
Recommendations for a trans-national research programme in the area of biorefineries research
This report highlights the various opportunities in Europe for building Public Private partnerships in the area of biorefining and presents alternatives to such PPPs. We mainly focus on possibilities given by the 7th Framework Programme of the EU.
Mapping of biorefinery research projects in Europe
This report presents the results of our mapping of ongoing biorefinery related projects in Europe, which you will be able to find in our Biorefinery portal at: www.star-colibri.net. A total of 307 projects were found throughout Europe, ranging from basic research to large demonstration projects.
Biorefinery portal user's guide
This document will help you navigate through our Biorefinery Portal (www.star-colibri.net) and make full use of its functionalities. The Biorefinery Portal will provide you with everything you need to know about biorefinery research in Europe, ranging from stakeholders to research projects and cooperation opportunities.
Background information and biorefinery status, potential and sustainability
This report looks at results from previous projects and initiatives on biomass availability, market and consumer data, LCA as well as policies.
Biorefinery R&D outside Europe
This report is the result of our information collection about ongoing R&D initiatives outside of Europe. The report will provides an outlook on biorefinery research in the USA, Canada, Australia, China, India and South America. The results will be used for benchmarking or to indicate new opportunities.
Industrial biorefineries in Europe
The report lists and gathers information about current industrial biorefineries throughout Europe. It provides a list of commercial biorefineries, defines different types of biorefineries and presents some examples of leading biorefineries in Europe.
Best practices in sustainability assessment
Sustainability aspects within StarClusters
In order to optimise the quality of the biorefinery clusters that we will help create, Star-COLIBRI established some quantitative and qualitative success criteria for the projects which will take part in the future collaborations. Overall, the selected projects will be major players in tomorrow's biorefining sector in Europe, boosting innovations in the field and paving the way from research to market.
Star-COLIBRI presents the first potential Star project candidates, based on an analysis according to the previously defined selection criteria. These major R&D projects and programmes will be the cornerstones of the future biorefinery clusters that Star-COLIBRI will help establish.
Guidelines on the best practice of establishing and managing a StarCluster
The report presents Star-COLIBRI's first experience with the Starclustering strategy, including issues encountered and how they were overcome by the team. This results in a general analysis of the whole process, in which barriers and opportunities are highlighted and recommendations are given.
Report to the Lead Market Initiative Ad Hoc Advisory Group
This report supports the recommendations developed by the Lead Market Initiative Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Biobased Products.
Conference proceedings: Expert Forum on European Biorefineries and High-level Policy Conference on Biorefineries.
Two main conferences were organised during the Star-COLIBRI project: the Expert Forum on European Biorefineries in Budapest on 12-13 April 2011 and the High-level Policy Conference on Biorefineries in Brussels on 5 October 2011.
